One new word a day

To my students I say

Every word on the wall.

The creation of the Wearable Word Wall is a celebration of the distinct and diverse words we ask children to learn to read.  How many times did I change the words?  Debi my designer was astounded, but once I explained to her what I was trying to achieve she breathed a sigh of relief.  Having a school aged child, she was quick to recognize the significance of the word wall.  Please read my resume.

There are 96 words arranged in alphabetical order.  Each word reflects a different procedure which a child needs to apply and recall to be a successful reader and speller.  If you scan the endings of the 96 words you will notice none are the same.  Every word prompts a mini lesson for the instructor to teach the child to discover all the possible word combinations.  In addition the teacher can provide strategies and cues for remembering the word.  See sample.   See another sample.  These samples are a few of the many activities that are suggested to explore the words on the wall.  If you purchase a tee shirt you receive a free file of additional original printables and poems to use with your child or students.
